Hi & welcome to the Redwell Fishing Update. As I sit and write this guess what? -It’s raining. Mind you it’s most welcome to freshen the lake up.
Fishing has been a bit up and down the last couple of weeks since my last report, as I had a walk around the lake this morning carp are still spawning but the majority have finished, and should soon be getting their heads down and bottom baits should start to be the winning way to go.
The past few evenings have seen lots of carp on the surface and quite a few of them have been willing to take surface bait, whether it be bread or dog biscuit, (Just be careful of the ducks!)
Bream, Roach & the Rudd are showing and being caught on all methods and baits. Just make sure you don’t fish too light as the carp are starting to venture into the margins and are not adverse to picking up your maggots, bread or whatever you have on your hook; just ask Mike, Doug, Colin and Len otherwise known as The Summer Wine Gang. They always end up hooking into a carp or three -,some they land and some they don’t, so be aware!
I fished on the waggler earlier in the week catching some nice size Bream and roach on corn and expander pellets, and yes I got mugged by carp three times.
Mr Braymire & and his friend Brian got it spot on Wednesday this week fishing from the new pegs at the far end of the lake, fishing close in on the pole,( and I mean close in) feeding micro pellets and paste on the hook, catching bream from 2 to 4lbs all day, well done to them.
Lanmore Angling Club held a maggot only match on Sunday 30th June, 15 anglers fished. The top three weights were:
2nd 33lb 8ozs.
3rd 32lb 7ozs.
