What a mixed bag of weather this month has been; just about the same as the fishing, up and down like a yo yo. As I sit here writing this the wind is blowing down the lake from the east and it has gone really chilly, feels more like late autumn than early summer.
Plenty of silvers being caught on all the usual tactics and baits, just keep the feed going in little and often when fishing the pole or waggler, dampened smaller pellet working best as feed, ground bait is tending to pull lots of skimmers into your swim giving you lots of line bites.
Ben, one of our members, fished the pole this morning at 7metre with 6mm expander on the hook, feeding 4mm hard pellet through the pot every put in had a very good bag of bream to 4lb catching every put in, he estimated about 70lb in four hours. Well done to him.
If you have not tried to fish paste I would recommend that you give it go, just make it a little bit stiffer to keep it on the hook, Go on give it a try, if you don’t feel confident to try it, look me out and I will show you how.
Carp at the present are proving hard to tempt during the day, early morning and late evening proving the best times, don’t get me wrong they are still getting caught during the day. Best tactics at the moment seems to be fishing that bit lighter on feeder rigs, method or cage both working, short hook link 4inch or less banded 4to6mm pellet, or try 4, 6or 8mm method boillies, dumbbell’s in flouro colours these can sometimes bring on an instant reaction.
If the wind drops on an evening try a dog biscuit or bread on the surface behind a controller float and don’t be too eager to strike give them a chance to take the bait.
Here’s hoping the weather takes a turn for the better over the next couple of months, and the thermals can be put away for a while.
TIGHT LINES. ARTFISH.
